Complete Ceremony Guide

How Annaprashan Sanskar is Conducted in Bangalore Homes

Around the sixth to eighth month of life, a baby is ready to taste solid grain (Anna) for the first time. In Vedic tradition, food is revered as 'Purna Brahma' (Annam Brahma), and introducing it through sacred mantras invokes the blessings of Goddess Annapurna, Agni Dev, and the family's kuldevta for the child's healthy growth, vitality, and bright future.

Pt. Rahul Shastri Ji makes the Annaprashan ceremony warm, family-friendly, and memorable. After performing Gauri-Ganesh Pujan, Kalash Sthapana, Navgraha Pujan, and a gentle Ayushya Havan for the baby's long life, the sacred Kheer (Payasam) is offered to the deities and then fed to the child using a silver spoon or coin by the maternal uncle (Mama), grandparents, or parents.

A highlight that families and guests love is the traditional 'Jeevika Pariksha' (Future Interest Game), where symbolic items—a sacred book/pen (knowledge), gold/silver coin (prosperity), soil/property symbol, and musical or artistic object—are placed before the baby to see what catches their curiosity first!

Shubh Muhurat & Auspicious Timings

Traditionally performed in even months (6th or 8th month) for baby boys and odd months (5th or 7th month) for baby girls during Shukla Paksha on auspicious nakshatras such as Ashwini, Rohini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Pushya, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Shravana, or Revati.
